About Us
OGAN is a small and nimble organization that works to support grassroots and frontline movements taking action for a just world beyond fossil fuels. We train organizers to catalyze actions that build the movement capacity we need to combat the climate crisis.
Since 2021, we have trained over 5,000 grassroots activists, supported over 200 powerful actions for climate justice, and built a network of over 30 allied projects.
Our focus is on supporting the actions-led side of social movements - with a core theory-of-change that taking collective action is the critical pathway to counter the power of Big Oil; can inspire more people to become actively engaged in social movements; and builds the bottom-up skills, leadership and resiliency necessary for navigating the climate crises.
Our work is inherently intersectional - we recognize that the fossil fuel industry is at the heart of systems that are based on oppression and domination. Fossil fuels have been a central driving force of an exploitative, extraction-based economy over the past 200+ years. Our work aims to not just keep fossil fuels in the ground, but to repair the harm caused by fossil fuels, and build new relationships that prepare us to navigate the climate crisis, based on principles of mutual aid, ecology, and egalitarianism.
Mobilize: To build and align the grassroots mobilization capacity of movements and communities working to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
OGAN’s primary work is reflected in these goals:
Movement Ecology: To serve as a critical operational vehicle for the grassroots climate justice/fossil fuel resistance movement - providing administrative capacity and fiscal sponsorship to help grassroots allies maximize the impact of organizing and campaigning.
Build Capacity: To train, mentor, and support grassroots networks to center strategic nonviolent direct action as an essential approach for climate and energy justice.
